Pangulong Duterte pinangunahan ang Pagbukas sa Publiko sa Mahigit P317.7 M pinakamahabang concrete bridge sa buong Oriental Mindoro!

The longest concrete bridge in the innermost town of Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro was finally inaugurated on Tuesday, April 03, 2018.

Along with other local officials, President Rodrigo Duterte conducted the unveiling and the ‘ribbon cutting’ ceremony of the 356-lineal meter LISAP BRIDGE dedicated in connecting 2 secluded Barangays.

Built with 2 abutments, 11 rigid piers and 12 spans, the project costed around P317.7 Million.

Bongabong Mayor Elgin A. Malaluan is grateful to President Duterte and lauded the efforts of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar for having to expedite the completion of the Bridge ‘in the most needed times’.

People in nearby Roxas and Mansalay towns formerly used to risk riding rafts in crossing the treacherous Bongabong river causing delays with economic impacts.
The long-term struggle then prompted the local community to initially establish what was then a 1-lane, 13-span Bailey Bridge in 2013 which led to the permanent pre-stressed concrete deck girder bridge in 2014 until it was fully accomplished its contractor, RD Interior Junior Construction in February.

In his introductory speech to President Duterte during the inauguration, Secretary Mark Villar gave a description behind the construction of the bridge by saying: “is one of the distinguished infrastructure accomplishments parallel to the Department’s mission for a quality, safe and environment-friendly infrastructure facilities, responsive to the needs of the public, enriching national development.”

Known as being the former stronghold of the New People’s Army, Troops from the Philippine Army’s 203rd Brigade and the Philippine National Police headed by Senior Superintendent Christopher C. Birung, aided the Presidential Security Group in securing the perimeter of the inauguration and the Presidential Chopper’s landing area in Barangay Lisap which have been frequented with ambush by the NPA in the past.

The President’s cabinet members who accompanied him in the inauguration were DOLE Secretary Sylvestre Bello III, DOE Secretary Al G. Cusi, Department of Agrarian Reform Secretary John R. Castriciones, Ramon Lopez of DTI, Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon T. Teo, and Guilling A. Mamondiong of TESDA.

The inauguration rites were attended by Rep. Rey V. Umali of the Second District of Oriental Mindoro, his brother Governor Alfonso V. Umali, Congressman Umali’s Son Board Member Paulo Umali and their cousin, Socorro Mayor Ma. Fe V. Brondial, President of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines.

The new Lisap Bridge aims to benefit people traveling to the Southern part of Mindoro and to improve the economic development of Southern Mindoro Island’s towns and municipalities.
