Duterte Government Pormal ng binuksan ang kauna unahang highway sa Pilipinas na 3 meters wide lane para sa mga bikers at joggers!

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has officially opened the Phase 2 of Laguna Lake Highway in Taguig, which is the first highway in the Philippines with 3 meters wide range for motorists, bikers and pedestrians, under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The project extending the Laguna Lake Highway for additional 1.3 kilometers that cost P140.331 million which covers provision for plant strip, sidewalk, turn out, and drainage works is in addition to the concrete paved segment which was about  3.2 kilometers, is now 4.5 kilometers.

The opening of the additional concrete paved segment was attended by DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar and Transportation Secretary Art Tugade with BCDA President Vince Dizon, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano and Taguig Representative Pia Cayetano, who tried out the bicycle lane.

“In a study by World Health Organization, 19% of those who die in road accidents in the Philippines are pedestrians,” Villar said.

“In building the road network in the Philippines, it is important that we also put in place more pedestrian infrastructure. This will not only happen in Luzon but also in Visayas and Mindanao,” He added.
The DPWH would incorporate pedestrian infrastructure and green architecture in the creation of key infrastructure according to the DPWH Secretary.

This improved highway will serve as protection from back-flow of lake water and ensures safety of motorists, bikers, pedestrians.

It is also important to cope with the increasing traffic volume due to rapid increase of population and urbanization in the Metro, linking towns of Rizal to the eastern corridor of Manila.

Aside from this successful project of DPWH, it is expected to be completed by 2018 of August, the on-going Phase III project covering an additional length of 4.3 kilometers.
